Door 2 - Chipolo
Chipolo LOOP & CARD using Nordic‘s nRF54 and power management IC
Chipolo has become a household name in the world of Bluetooth trackers, helping millions of people locate lost items such as keys, wallets, and bags. As the market for smart tracking devices grew, Chipolo faced a challenge: how to deliver smaller, more powerful, and longer-lasting trackers that integrate seamlessly with both Apple’s Find My network and Google’s Find My Device ecosystem. To achieve this, Chipolo partnered with Nordic Semiconductor, leveraging the nRF54L15 SoC and nPM1100 PMIC.
The Chipolo POP and Chipolo LOOP are lightweight, compact trackers ideal for everyday items such as keys, bags, and luggage, while the Chipolo CARD comes in a slim, credit‑card‑sized form factor that fits easily into a wallet or passport holder. All three devices employ Nordic’s nRF54L15 SoC, which provides robust, long‑range Bluetooth LE connectivity between the trackers and the user’s smartphone. The Chipolo LOOP also integrates Nordic’s ultra‑small nPM1100 power management IC to supervise USB‑C battery charging and optimize battery life in ‘ship mode’ during product distribution.
Once connected to a smartphone, users can locate lost or misplaced items through the Apple Find My or Google Find Hub apps. Additional features available through the Chipolo companion app include “Call Your Phone” and “Out of Range Alerts” for Android users.
The Chipolo POP uses a CR2032 coin cell battery that provides up to 12 months of life between replacements, while the LOOP and CARD employ rechargeable batteries that last up to six months per charge. Nordic’s efficient radio and MCU design further reduce power consumption across typical Bluetooth LE applications. The nRF54L Series SoCs feature a high‑performance 2.4 GHz radio with a maximum receive sensitivity of –96 dBm, a transmit output of up to +8 dBm, and a total link budget exceeding 104 dBm. This enables Bluetooth ranges of up to 90 meters for the POP and up to 120 meters for the LOOP and CARD.
The nPM1100 PMIC integrated into the Chipolo LOOP supports Li‑ion and Li‑poly batteries with selectable termination voltages of 3.6 V and 3.7 V. It includes thermal protection and automatically selects between trickle, constant current, and constant voltage charging modes, with a configurable charge current ranging from 20 mA to 400 mA.
Chipolo’s partnership with Nordic Semiconductor demonstrates how cutting-edge wireless and power management technology can transform consumer products. By adopting the nRF54L15 SoC and nPM1100 PMIC, Chipolo has created a new generation of trackers that are efficient, sustainable, and globally compatible. This collaboration highlights how Nordic’s ecosystem empowers innovators to deliver products that meet modern consumer demands while preparing for future growth.
