TDK SPM6530T and SPM6550T: High-Current Power Inductors-Compact SMD components for high-performance DC/DC converters

10/15/2026 Product News

Increasing power densities are placing ever-greater demands on the power supplies of modern electronic systems. DC/DC converters must efficiently handle high currents while minimizing space requirements, power losses and heat generation. TDK's SPM6530T and SPM6550T SMD power inductors series offer compact solutions with high current-handling capability and excellent durability.

Both series feature a wire-wound metal core and a magnetically shielded design. With an identical footprint of 7.1 × 6.5 mm, the two series differ in height: The SPM6530T measures a maximum of 3 mm, while the SPM6550T, at 5 mm, provides additional capacity for more demanding power applications.

A key feature of both series is the optimised terminal design, which supports high current-handling capability while limiting heat generation. The direct thermal and electrical connection contribute to a high self-resonant frequency and helps minimise temperature rise under load. The metal core supports high magnetic flux density and efficient operation. At the same time, the magnetically shielded design reduces electromagnetic interference (EMI) – a significant advantage in densely populated PCB layouts.

Key features at a glance:

  • Form factor: Compact SMD packages (7.1 × 6.5 mm; heights of 3.0 mm or 5.0 mm)
  • Design: Wire-wound construction with a metal core and magnetic shielding
  • Performance: High current-handling capability and high self-resonant frequency
  • Thermal performance: Low temperature rise under load
  • Reliability: High mechanical and thermal robustness
  • Applications: Industrial, AI computing and automotive (-HZ/-HZR)

These inductors are primarily designed for DC/DC converters used in industrial and automotive applications. They are also suitable for power supplies in robotics and automation systems, as well as for space-constrained applications with increasing computational demands, such as AI-enabled embedded systems. For automotive applications, TDK also offers the SPM-VC series, which features higher withstand voltage and lower DC resistance (DCR).
