Intel® Xeon® 6+: More Compute Performance per Watt for Data Centers - Next-generation server processors combine increased core density with improved energy efficiency and security.

09/24/2026 Product News

AI, cloud-native applications, and data-intensive workloads are driving up power density in data centers. At the same time, power supply and cooling are increasingly becoming limiting factors. Therefore, there is a need for processor platforms that combine high performance with efficient resource usage and transparency regarding actual energy demand. This is where the new Intel® Xeon® 6+ processors come in. The first Intel data center CPUs based on the Intel® 18A process, they are designed for cloud, networking, and AI applications.

High Core Density and Fast Memory Connectivity

Xeon 6+ (also known as Clearwater Forest) processors offer high core density and fast memory connectivity. They provide up to 288 Efficient-cores (E-cores) and, according to Intel, deliver up to 2.5 times the performance of the previous generation. Twelve memory channels support DDR5-8000 in the form of standard registered dual-in-line memory modules (RDIMMs) and provide high bandwidth for data-intensive systems. For fast data transfers, 96 PCIe Gen 5 lanes and CXL support are available. Thus, the platform addresses high parallelism, large data volumes, and requirements for predictable latencies.

System developers will also be interested in platform compatibility: the Intel® Xeon® 6+ uses the same package as existing Xeon 6900P processors. This means that existing boards and platforms can continue to be used. Integrated security features, such as Intel SGX and Intel TDX, support confidential and multi-tenant environments.

Benefits for Developers: Precise Analysis of Energy Consumption

With Intel Application Energy Telemetry (AET), Intel enhances the processor platform with a hardware-based analysis of energy consumption. This feature, introduced with the Xeon 6+, determines energy and CPU activity data directly within the hardware rather than deriving it from utilization data or software models. The analysis ranges from microservices, containers, and virtual machines to individual software threads.

This allows developers to identify inefficient code paths and evaluate the impact of optimizations on energy consumption. AET is based on Intel Platform Monitoring Technology (PMT) and supports both in-band and out-of-band access. This allows the telemetry to be integrated into existing monitoring, orchestration, and platform management environments.

Areas of Application

  • Cloud-native and highly parallelized applications
  • AI and data-intensive applications
  • Data centers and colocation infrastructures
  • Cloud and hyperscale platforms
  • Telecommunications and 5G networks
  • Enterprise IT and HPC systems
  • Virtualized and multi-tenant environments

Particularly in environments with limited energy budgets, the combination of high core density and detailed telemetry supports more targeted workload placement and more efficient utilization of existing resources.
