The XMC5000 series is based on a high-performance dual-core architecture featuring an Arm® Cortex®-M4F core with up to 160 MHz and an additional Cortex®-M0+ core dedicated to security and cryptographic tasks. This architecture enables efficient separation of control, communication and safety functions within a single system.
The series is structured into three scalable families – XMC5100, XMC5200 and XMC5300 – allowing developers to select the optimal performance level for their application:
The XMC5100 series targets cost-sensitive and moderately demanding applications. It offers an 80 MHz Cortex®-M4F core, up to 576 KB Flash and 64 KB SRAM, as well as a solid peripheral set including up to 4 CAN FD interfaces and multiple ADC channels. This makes it suitable for basic motor control and general industrial control tasks.
The XMC5200 series significantly increases system performance with a 160 MHz Cortex®-M4F core and expanded memory of up to 1088 KB Flash and 128 KB SRAM. It also provides enhanced peripheral capabilities, including up to 6 CAN FD interfaces and a higher number of timer and ADC channels. This positions it for more complex control systems and multi-axis motor control applications.
At the top end, the XMC5300 series delivers maximum performance and integration density. With up to 2 MB Flash and 256 KB SRAM, as well as the most extensive peripheral configuration – including up to 8 CAN FD interfaces and advanced timer resources – it is designed for highly integrated systems and demanding real-time control applications.
Across all series, the MCUs integrate a wide range of peripherals, including flexible communication interfaces (SPI, I²C and UART), multiple SAR ADC units and advanced PWM/timer modules for precise motor control.
A key differentiating feature of the XMC5000 series is its ability to support dual motor control and power factor correction (PFC) within a single microcontroller. This reduces system complexity and cost while enabling higher efficiency and integration.
The devices support an extended supply voltage range of 2.7 V to 5.5 V and operate across a temperature range of –40 °C to +125 °C, making them suitable for harsh industrial environments. Additional features such as low-power modes, integrated safety functions and support for Class B and SIL 2 standards contribute to high system reliability.
