The new BME688 from Bosch Sensortec is a 4-in-1 gas sensor with highly accurate, integrated pressure, temperature and humidity sensors. It is also the first gas sensor with artificial intelligence.
Its robust as well as very compact housing measures only 3.0 x 3.0x 0.9 mm³, which together with its low power consumption is advantageous with regard to mobile and networked applications.
In addition to VOCs (volatile organic compounds) and VSCs (volatile sulfur compounds), the BME688 also measures gases such as carbon monoxide or hydrogen in the ppb range.
Furthermore, the sensor also has a gas scanner function. By that, it can draw conclusions e.g. about the presence of bacteria by the detection of VOCs. The scanner can be customized in terms of sensitivity, selectivity, data rate and power consumption. By means of the free software "AI-Studio", the customer can train the sensor on applications or scenarios. This applies for example to household appliances, intelligent IoT products or smart homes.
In addition, a development kit from Bosch is provided to test the sensor and its numerous modes in a straightforward manner.
