This was the most successful season yet for the Rutronik Stars Keltern, and it was crowned by their winning the German basketball championship. During the course of the regular season the Stars had reached the top of the table with only four losses, so they already had an excellent position for the final round. Nevertheless, even the most optimistic fans didn’t reckon with the Stars charging through the playoffs without losing a single game to win the championship.
On Tuesday, May 1st, the Rutronik Stars achieved the third victory that they needed in the final series in the Speiterling sports hall in Dietlingen – against record champions TSV Wasserburg, the team that has won the title eleven times since 2004. Back in March, the players from Keltern had to concede defeat to TSV Wasserburg in the Cup Final. With 3 to nil victories, their revenge in the series leading up to the championship was impressive. Winning the title also entitles Rutronik Stars Keltern to participate in international competitions.
“As the team’s name sponsor we are very proud of Rutronik Stars Keltern and we heartily congratulate the players, the other people involved and the club on their first champions’ title,” says Rutronik CEO Thomas Rudel. “It was our aim to establish first-class basketball in the region. The championship title gives us the best possible starting point for future participation even beyond the national elite.”
Rutronik Elektronische Bauelemente GmbH from Ispringen has been the name sponsor of the womens’ basketball team from Keltern since 2015. The company also supplies the media technology during home games. Regional sponsoring and participation is part of Rutronik’s company philosophy.
