Since the introduction of the first storage module in 1947 there were eight major leaps forward in storage technologies. Usage requirements for Intel Optane Memory

Intel Optane Memory is a M.2-plug-in module in the form factor M.2-2280. Hence a PCIe-M.2. slot is required to operate the SSD. Additionally, to fully exploit the Intel Optane Memory technology, an operational desktop platform from Kaby Lake series onwards and a chipset onwards the 200 series is required.


Areas of application: Interesting for industrial customers?

The application of Intel Optane Memory is not restricted to the consumer segment. Basically Intel Optane Memory can be used as a common storage medium as well. Because of the available capacities of 16GB and 32GB and endurance figures of up to 182.5TB Intel Optane Memory can be used in the industrial market as well. To use Intel Optane Memory as a storage medium older mainboards featuring a M.2 slot and supporting PCIe-SSD with NVMe can be utilized as well.


Key technical data

The endurance test results documented in the table on the right hand side were determined in accordance with the JEDEC (JESD218) standard and were taken by Intel. The resulting values were determined when Intel Optane Memory was operated in the client workload area.
