Junior Manager Contest 2017

  Trainee Blog

We met up in front of Camlog/Altatec in Wimsheim, where the Junior Manager Contest was to take place, at 8.30 am on November 11.

After a short address of welcome and introduction to the business game, we finally got going at 10 am.

The aim of this business game was, in groups of four, to take over a company manufacturing e-bikes and to lead it to success using various sales strategies.

After each round, we received the results of the last fiscal year along with new problems or advantages (e.g. the e-bike market increases by 30 percent or the redundancy costs per employee increase to €20,000) to possibly change our strategy or adapt it to the market situation. Overall, there were four rounds or business periods during which we had to keep a close eye on our six competitors at all times. For example, we had to constantly adapt our prices in line with discount or premium e-bikes. We had to make decisions on how much we wanted to produce and sell and adjust our number of employees accordingly over and over again.

After an excellent lunch, we were assigned a "break task". The task involved developing a commercial about our company P.D.C.A (the name represents the initials of our first names) and then presenting it to a panel of judges.

After the lunch break, we still had to complete two periods; this was followed by the presentations of the commercials and finally by the award ceremony of the business game.

Our spot under the slogan "Do you know when ..." won first prize and we were rewarded accordingly.

Unfortunately, it was not enough to qualify for the final, as we came fourth. Taking part and gaining some great experience was, nevertheless, great fun for all of us.
