"Ideas with light" - The KIRA Leuchten GmbH

  Newsletter Article

The company KIRA was founded in 1949 by Edwin Kirsch from Randegg – hence the name KIRA. Today it mainly manufactures lights, although they were not the business’s original focus and were only sold on the side until it began producing its own lights at the start of the 1960s. A classic 8-watt hand lamp was initially produced for 230 V power supplies, marketed as a workshop and inspection lamp.

Over the course of the years, the company has been able to produce customer-specific requests and solutions in the area of lighting technology for the trades and industry, gradually expanding the product range, including in the area of safety extra-low voltage lighting. The first explosion-proof lights were developed by KIRA and successfully certified in 1985, thereby appealing to target groups that required safe and reliable lighting in areas where explosion protection was necessary for safety reasons. KIRA Leuchten GmbH emerged from the original company in the same year.

As the use of LEDs began to become more widespread at the start of the 2000s, KIRA also started to work on developments in this market segment. Established luminescent lamps were gradually replaced by newly developed LED lamps. Today, LED lamps form the main part of the product range. The LED developments were successfully produced over a number of years in conjunction with the electronics laboratory Peter Geist from Konstanz; in 2011, this company was incorporated into KIRA Leuchten GmbH.

KIRA Leuchten is now a company renowned for its extensive expertise and for being a reliable partner both at home and abroad. Thanks to its long-standing experience in the area of technical lighting for the trades and industry, KIRA Leuchten can supply its customers with robust and reliable lights with the highest standards of quality. Since November 2002, the company has been certified in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9001 and ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU.

The production area occupies around 1,000 square meters, including the administrative section. The lights are manufactured and sold (nationally and internationally) at the company's site in Gottmadingen, where around 20 people are currently employed. KIRA values Rutronik24 as a competent sales and technology partner that generates added value for both companies thanks to its global logistics network and excellently trained employees.
