for Industrial and Electro-Mobility Applications
Over the years, RECOM has expanded its portfolio of DC/DC converters for the railway industry from 8W up to 240W and is now able to offer one of the market’s broadest portfolios of EN50155 certified products.
The RP and RPA series of regulated DC/DC converters are specially designed for railway applications with 4:1 wide input voltage ranges to cover the standard supply voltages from 24VDC up to 110VDC. The railway converters are EN50155 certified and with CE mark for use in the demanding rolling stock environment as well as in harsh industrial and trackside applications.
With an efficiency of up to 93%, cooling by natural convection is typically all that is needed to achieve Tx operating temperatures, but pre-mounted heatsinks are also available if required. Railway-certified series start at 8W in an SMD case and go up to 240W half-brick, offering an impressive power density of up to 4.5W/cm³.
RECOM’s energy-efficient AC/DC and DC/DC converters live up to the Industry 4.0 and IoT challenges and offer high efficiency at both light load and full load at affordable prices.
The Internet of Things (IoT) covers many separate concepts, but they share the following common features: distributed intelligence, multiple interconnected sensors/actuators and decentralized control. In practice, IoT means that certain spaces, environments or objects can be made “smart” by incorporating sensors that can communicate to make them behave intelligently. Not every power supply is suitable for an IoT application. They must be space-saving, reliable, highly efficient at both low load and full load, and above all they must be affordable as they will be as common as the sensors, processors and actuators that they supply.
For all these requirements, RECOM offers a variety of suitable products: Highly efficient, low standby consumption AC/DC power supplies that can be used in a smart office with hundreds of intelligent sensor nodes, low cost isolated DC/DC power supplies for multiple input channels and a very low input voltage boost converter to generate a reliable power supply from a single battery cell.
Keep your BoM under control, and save development time! Modular converters were always considered to be more expensive than discrete solutions. However, with the commissioning of its own SMT factory, RECOM is able to offer select converter series at very attractive prices.
With economy of scale, RECOM is able to provide significant cost savings compared to similar products without compromising quality. Whether on-board or off-board AC/DC, regulated or unregulated DC/DC converters, and switching regulators, RECOM’s portfolio offers low-cost solutions for most applications.
Unexpected problems, such as component tolerances, testing failures and EMC issues possible with discrete designs can lead to troublesome delays and re-design costs. Complete, pre-tested, pre-certified modules not only save on development time but also reduce manufacturing complications and simplify the final certification process. With fewer components to manage, procurement teams also benefit from a single modular, low-cost solution.
To meet the emerging demands of smart building applications, RECOM extends its existing low-power RAC series with new household certified AC/DC converters at lower cost.
Intelligently networked smart homes and smart offices often require control systems with many low power nodes, actuators and sensors that are “always on”. RECOM’s low cost AC/DC power supplies were specially designed to power smart building infrastructure 24/7 with very low standby power consumption (as low as 35mW), extra-wide input voltage range and full household (IEC/EN60335-1), CE (LVD+EMC+RoHS2) and industrial safety certifications (IEC/EN/UL60950).
They offer compact sizes for easy installation both on- or off-board and deliver reliable, regulated, short-circuit and overload-protected local DC power with reinforced isolation to run smart building automation applications.
The simplest (functional) isolation of a DC/DC converter can withstand 1kVDC for one second, however
this is often not sufficient for high-side gate drivers. RECOM combines the required high insulation
voltage, asymmetric output voltages, and low isolation capacitance into one simple DC/DC module.
High side inverters are often floated a few hundred volts with an opto-isolated PWM control, so the gate drivers need an isolated power supply. This isolated supply is typically +15/-9V for IGBT, +20/-5V for SiC (+15/-3V for 2nd Gen. devices) or +6V and +9V for GaN. A typical DC/DC isolation voltage would be at least twice the working voltage, but the high ambient temperature and fast switching edges generated by these high-power transistors additionally stress the insulation barrier.
Whether IGBT, SiC MOSFET or GaN HEMT, RECOM has the matching DC/DC converter module, featuring the required asymmetric output voltages, high insulation voltage and low isolation capacitance. The R-REF01-HB reference design can be used to compare the real-life performance of various high power switching technologies.
RECOM’s R-78 series is the original non-isolated, high-efficiency switching regulator, designed as a pin compatible drop- in replacement for LM78 linear regulators - no heatsink required! RECOM's R-78 series switching regulator modules offer all the advantages of a switching regulator - high efficiency, wide input voltage range, accurate output voltage regulation - with a low cost for production quantities.
The R-78 series offers a risk-free, pre-tested solution that makes designing a switching regulator circuit redundant. The R-78 series meets all of the most commonly requested specifications yet makes no compromise when it comes to quality and reliability as it is guaranteed with a full 3-Year warranty from RECOM.
RECOM offers a range of PCB mounted DC/DC converters for 12V, 24V, 28V, 36V, 48V, 72V, 96V or 110V battery-powered applications.
The RP and RPA series of board-mounting DC/DC converters are available from 30W to 240W with a power density up to 4.5W/cm³ - one of the highest currently available on the market. They use planar transformers to reduce the converter size without compromising on efficiency or output power, a construction method that also supports a fully automated production process which makes them extremely reliable and cost-effective. These series are used in many space- constrained industrial, test-and-measurement, transport, railway and other demanding applications that require a 4:1 input voltage range; the RPA100H-RUW and RPA200H-RUW even offers an exceptional 10:1 input voltage range.
